Relationships

Crown Forestry Rental Trust works particularly closely with our key stakeholders:

  • Māori.
  • The Crown, other Crown agencies and Government departments.
  • Treaty claim settlement agencies.

Māori

We work closely with Māori claimant groups with Waitangi Tribunal claims, which involve, or could involve, Crown forest licensed land.

We report annually to our Trustees’ Māori appointors, the New Zealand Māori Council (NZMC) and Federation of Māori Authorities Incorporated (FOMA).

The Crown

We report annually to our Trustees’ Crown appointor, the Minister of Finance.

Treaty Claim Process Agencies

We work with other agencies involved in the Treaty claim and settlement process, including:

Waitangi Tribunal

Permanent commission of inquiry into Māori claims relating to the Treaty of Waitangi.

Office of Treaty Settlements

Handles claim negotiations between Māori and the Crown, and coordinates the implementation of claim settlements.

Other Crown Agencies and Government Departments

The Trust is independent of Government. However, the Trust works with a number of government agencies whose services can benefit groups within the settlement process.
